わたしは くすのき。
I am a camphor tree.
うみが みえる やまに いる。
I live on a mountain where you can see the sea.
このやまには たくさんの ちょうが すんでいる。
Many butterflies live on this mountain.
ほら、みて。
Look, see?
いろとりどりの ちょうが、わたしの となりの いで ちいさな はなの みつを すっている。
Colorful butterflies are sipping nectar from the small flowers on the branch beside me.
わたしの ところには あおい ちょうが やってくる。
A blue butterfly comes to visit me.
えだの あいだを とんだり、はっぱに さわったりして、なにかを さがして いるようだ。
It flutters between my branches, touches my leaves, and seems to be searching for something.
あ、かぜだ。
Ah, the wind is blowing.
ひゅー ひゅーうぅー ぴゅーっ
*Whoosh, whoosh, swoooosh.*
わたしの えだも みきも、かぜに おおきく ゆさぶられる。
My branches and trunk are being shaken hard by the wind.
てっぺんが ぐるん ぐるん まわる。
The top of my tree spins round and round.
かぜに たおされないように、ねっこに ちからを いれて ふんばろう。
I must brace myself and strengthen my roots so I don’t fall.
やっと かぜが やんだ。
Finally, the wind stops.
もう ことりたちの ゆはんの じかんだ。
It's now time for the small birds’ dinner.
ちゃいろの ことりや みどりの ことりが えさを さがして、わたしの からだを あちこち つつく。
Brown and green birds peck at my body here and there, searching for food.
おひさまが やまの むこうに しずんだ。
The sun sets behind the mountains.
ちょうや ことりは このやまの どこかで あさまで ねむるのだろう。
The butterflies and birds will likely sleep somewhere on this mountain until morning.
あ、はなび。
Oh, fireworks!
ドン ドン ドドドドドーン
*Boom, boom, boom, boom-boom-boom!*
おとが わたしの からだに ひびく。
The sound echoes through my body.
つぎのひ、おひさまが ぎらぎら てりはじめると また、あおい ちょうが やってきた。
The next day, when the sun starts to shine brightly again, the blue butterfly returns.
わたしの そばを ゆっくり とんで、ときどき わたしの はっぱに さわる。
It flies slowly near me and occasionally touches my leaves.
ようやく さがしものが みつかったらしい。
It seems to have finally found what it was looking for.
あおい ちょうが とまったのは、のびてきたばかりの わたしの やわらかな はっぱ。
The blue butterfly lands on one of my newly grown, soft leaves.
おなかを まげて、たまごを うんだ。
It bends its body and lays an egg.
ちいさな クリームいろの まるい たまご。
A small, round, cream-colored egg.
あなたの たまごは わたしが だいじに あずかるよ。
I'll take good care of your egg.
たまごが かえったら、はっぱを たくさん たべさせて あげよう。
When it hatches, I'll let the little ones eat plenty of my leaves.
