こまったさんの おみせは、えきの まえです。
Komattasan’s shop is in front of the station.
小さな 小さな 花やさんです。
It is a very, very small flower shop.
ある日、こまったさんの おみせに、たっきゅうびんが とどきました。
One day, a package arrived at Komattasan’s shop.
「おとどけものです。はんこ、ください。」
"Delivery for you. Please sign here."
そういったのは、ぷるんとふとった おじさんでした。
The man who said this was a plump, round gentleman.
「こまったわ。」こまったさんは、いいました。
"Oh no," Komattasan said.
ほんとうに、こまってしまったのです。
She was truly in a dilemma.
「おみせには、はんこ、おいてないのよ。」
"I don’t have a stamp in my shop."
すると、おじさんは、「サインで、けっこう。」と、いいました。
The deliveryman replied, "A signature will do."
「サイン？ こまったわ。」
"A signature? Oh no."
すぐに こまった というのが、くせなのです。
Saying "Oh no" had become a habit for her.
それで ごしゅじんの ヤマさんが、こまったさんと、あだ名を つけたのです。
That’s why her husband, Yama-san, had given her the nickname "Komattasan."
こまったさんは、しかたなく、花もようの サインを しました。
Having no other choice, Komattasan signed with a floral pattern.
とー。
Then—
おじさんの すがたが、きえているのです。
The deliveryman had vanished.
「.....。」
"....."
おじさんだけでは ありません。おみせの 花が、みんなきえて、のこっているのは、赤いバラが ただ一本。それから、たっきゅうびんの はこだけです。
Not only was the deliveryman gone, but all the flowers in the shop had disappeared as well, leaving behind only a single red rose and the package.
こまったさんは、はこを とりあげました。
Komattasan picked up the package.
「だれから、おくってきたのかしら。」と、見ると、「こまったラーメン」と かいてあるだけです。
"Who could have sent this?" she wondered. Looking at the label, it only said, "Komatta Ramen."
「なによ、これ。ラーメン？」
"What is this? Ramen?"
あけると 中に、水さいばいの ガラスびんが、はいっていました。
She opened it and found a glass jar for hydroponics inside.
ヒアシンスの きゅうこんも いっしょです。
Along with it was a hyacinth bulb.
「なあんだ、水さいばいの ヒアシンスじゃない、さっそく、やってみましょ。」
"Oh, it’s just a hydroponic hyacinth. Let’s set it up right away."
こまったさんは、びんに 水をいれ、きゅうこんを おきました。
Komattasan filled the jar with water and placed the bulb inside.
「これで、よし！」と、いったとき、おみせの まえに、大きな トラックが とまりました。
"There, all done!" Just then, a large truck pulled up in front of the shop.
はじめに おりてきたのは、ヤマさんです。
The first to step out was Yama-san.
きゅうかんちょうの ムノくんが、かたに とまっていました。
Perched on his shoulder was Muno-kun, a hill myna bird.
こまったさんは、いいました。「こまったわ。お花が、みんな なくなっちゃった.....。」
Komattasan said, "Oh no! All the flowers are gone..."
すると、ヤマさんは、へんなことをいうのです。
But Yama-san said something strange.
「花が ないから、花やは おしまい。きょうから うちは こまったラーメンだ。」
"No flowers, no flower shop. From today, this shop is Komatta Ramen."
「こまったラーメン？」
"Komatta Ramen?"
トラックから、つぎに 出てきたのは、あの たっきゅうびんの おじさんです。
Next to step out of the truck was the deliveryman from earlier.
おじさんは、たった一人で 大きなてつの はこを ひきずりだして、ヒョッと もちあげました。
He alone dragged out a huge iron box and, with a heave-ho, lifted it effortlessly.
「だんな、ここで、いいかね。」
"Sir, this goes here, right?"
おみせの 入り口に、ズムッと、おきました。
He placed it right at the shop’s entrance with a thud.
よほど おもいと見えて、ゆかが、じしんのように ゆれました。
It was so heavy that the floor shook as if there was an earthquake.
たった一本 のこったバラの 花びらが、一まいピロッと はがれたほどです。
A single petal fell from the last remaining rose.
「いいとも。ありがとうよ。」
"Looks good. Thanks a lot!"
こまったさんは、そのバラを、おじさんに あげました。
Komattasan gave the man that last rose.
おじさんは、いきなり バラの花を 口にいれて、たべてしまいました。
He immediately popped it into his mouth and ate it.
そして、「うまいっ！ しかし、こまったラーメンは、バラより うまい。うまくて、こまった。やすくて、こまった。また たべたくなって、こまった、こまった。」
Then he declared, "Delicious! But Komatta Ramen is even tastier. So delicious, it’s a problem! So cheap, it’s a problem! I crave it so much, it’s a problem! Problem after problem!"
そういったかと おもうと、またまた、フッと きえてしまったのです。
And with that, he vanished once again.
きえたところに、大きなスープなべが、おいてありました。
In his place was a large soup pot.
こまったさんは。「いったい、どうなってるの？」と、さけびました。
Komattasan shouted, "What on earth is going on?"
ヤマさんは、いっしょうけんめい、おみせを かたづけています。
Meanwhile, Yama-san was diligently clearing out the shop.
花のはいっていた おけを、みんな すみに どけて、そこにガスこんろを おきました。
He moved all the empty flower buckets to the corner and set up a gas stove in their place.
ヤマさんは、スープなべを こんろに かけて、中に 水を いれました。
Yama-san put the soup pot on the stove and filled it with water.
とりがらは さっと ゆがいて きたない しるは みなすてる
He quickly blanched some chicken bones and discarded the murky broth.
それから たっぷり 水をいれ はじめ つよ火で ドッドッド
Then, he added plenty of water and started boiling it on high heat—dodd dodd dodd.
うきでた あわは みなすてる よわ火で ゆっくり 一じかん
As scum rose to the surface, he skimmed it off. Then, he turned down the heat and let it simmer for an hour.
スープなべには、とりがらが、はいって いたのです。
The soup pot was now filled with chicken bones.
こまったさんは、きっぱりと いいました。「わたし、いやよ。ラーメンや、はんたい。わたしは、花やの こまったさんですからね。」
Komattasan firmly declared, "I refuse! No ramen shop for me. I’m Komattasan, the florist!"
おみせを とびだしました。
And she ran out of the shop.
ムノくんが、「コマッタ、コマッタ。」と、いいました。
Muno-kun chirped, "Komatta, komatta!" ("What a problem, what a problem!")
こまったさんは、バイクに とびのって、「かってに すればいいわ。」と、いいました。
Komattasan hopped onto a motorbike. "Do whatever you want!" she huffed.
すると、バイクが、かってに はしりだしたのです。
But suddenly, the motorbike took off on its own.
ものすごい スピードです。
It was going incredibly fast.
まわりが、なにも 見えなくなりました。
Everything around her blurred.
そのうちに、かってに、とまりました。
And then, just as suddenly, it stopped.
「へーい、おまちどう！」と、こえを かけられて 見ると、きたこともない 町に いるでは ありませんか。
"Here you go! Thanks for waiting!" When she looked up, she realized she was in a town she had never seen before.
「はくさい、にんじん、ちんげんさい。たまねぎ、ピーマン、たけのこ、しいたけ、おまけに、もやしと、にんにく、もっていけっ！」
"Cabbage, carrots, bok choy! Onions, green peppers, bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms! And as a bonus, bean sprouts and garlic! Take 'em all!"
やおやさんが、そういいながら、やさいを ほうりなげてくるのです。
A greengrocer started tossing vegetables at her.
「きゃっ、たすけて。」と、いうと、やさいは、こまったさんを よけて、うしろに おちました。
"Ahh! Help!" she cried. But instead of hitting her, the vegetables landed neatly behind her.
やさいの おちたところ.....。
Looking back, she saw—
なんと、いつのまにか バイクに、小さな にぐるまが、つながっているのです。
Somehow, a small cart was now attached to the motorbike.
バイクは、かってに はしりだして、つぎは、にくやさんです。
The bike took off again on its own. Next stop: the butcher shop.
「とり、ぶた、ぎゅうにく、じょうとうな ひきにくに、ハムは おまけ！」
"Chicken, pork, beef! Premium ground meat! A free ham for you!"
とんできた にくが、やさいの くるまの、うしろに つながった にぐるまに.....。
Meat came flying through the air and landed in the cart behind the vegetables.
バイクは、また、かってに はしりだして、さかなやさんに。
The motorbike took off again and stopped at the fish shop.
それから、たまごやさんで とまって、さかなやさんで、しょうゆ、さとう。みそ、サラダオイル.....。
Then at the egg shop. Then at the fish shop again for soy sauce, sugar, miso, and salad oil...
そのたびに、にぐるまが ふえて、まるで 五りょうれんけつの、れっしゃです。
Each time, another cart attached itself, forming a train of five carts.
こんど、かってに とまったのは、しゃれた ブティックの まえでした。
Finally, the bike stopped in front of a stylish boutique.
「おにあいの ふくですよ。どうぞ、おめしください。」
"Here’s an outfit that will suit you perfectly! Try it on!"
中から 出てきたのは、またまた、ぷるんと ふとった あのおじさんでした。
The one who stepped out was—the same plump deliveryman!
こまったさんは、さけびました。「あんた、いったい、だれ？ あんたが あらわれると おかしなことばかり.....。わたし、こまっちゃう。」
Komattasan screamed, "Who are you?! Every time you appear, strange things happen... I’m in a real bind!"
すると、まるで 手じなのように、サパッと 赤いバラの 花を出して、「どうぞ。」と、いって、こまったさんの むねに、さしました。
With a flourish, the man pulled out a red rose and pinned it to her chest.
とたんに、バイクれっしゃが、はしりだしました。
At that moment, the motorbike train took off again.
たしかに、へんなことが おこるのです。
And, sure enough, something strange was happening.
バイクれっしゃは、どこをどうはしったのか、えきまえに もどって とまりました。
Somehow, the motorbike train found its way back to the station.
ムノくんが、とんできて、「オカエリ、ヤマサン、マッテルヨ。」
Muno-kun flew over and chirped, "Welcome back! Yama-san is waiting!"
が、へんなのです。
But something was odd.
花やの みせさきに、じどうはんばいきの ボックスが、おいてあるのです。
In front of the flower shop, there was now a vending machine.

—Komatta Ramen—
「なあに、これ。」
"What is this?"
こまったさんは、おもいだしました。
Then, Komattasan remembered.
トラックで はこんできた、てつのはこが、それでした。
The iron box they had brought in by truck—it was this.
ボックスの かげから、ヤマさんが かおを 出して、「さあ、できたぞ。こまったさん、しょうゆを もってきてくれたね？」
Yama-san peeked out from behind the vending machine. "It’s ready! Komattasan, you brought the soy sauce, right?"
「しらないっ！」
"I don’t know anything about that!"
「やあ、いろんなもの、かってきたんだね。」
"Wow, you sure picked up a lot of things!"
ヤマさんは、バイクれっしゃの 中から、しょうゆを とりだして、「きみ、こまったラーメン いやだったら、アパートに かえって、このざいりょうで、ばんごはんを つくればいい。こまったラーメンは、ぼく一人で、やれるさ。」
Yama-san rummaged through the motorbike train and pulled out the soy sauce. "If you don’t want to run the ramen shop, you can go back to the apartment and use these ingredients to make dinner. I can handle Komatta Ramen by myself."
「なによっ。」
"What?!"
こまったさんは、ヤマさんを、にらみつけました。
Komattasan glared at Yama-san.
「スープと おしょうゆが あったって、めんが なければ ラーメンなんて できないでしょ。わたし、めんは、かってきませんからね。」
"Even if you have soup and soy sauce, you can’t make ramen without noodles! I didn’t buy any noodles, so there!"
ヤマさんは、ふしぎそうに、くびをかしげて、「あれ？ さっき、きみが つくってくれた.....。」
Yama-san tilted his head in confusion. "Huh? But you already made them..."
「つくるわけ ないでしょ。」
"No way!"
「できてるよ。」
"They’re ready."
ヤマさんは、ボックスの うらを あけました。
Yama-san opened the back of the vending machine.
「見てごらん。」
"Look for yourself."
なんと そこには、スープの 大なべと、上に ヒアシンスのびんが、はいって いました。
Inside was a giant soup pot—with the hydroponic hyacinth jar sitting on top.
「れれっ？」
"Huh?"
ヒアシンスの きゅうこんから、いつのまにか、ねがはえているのです。
Somehow, roots had grown from the hyacinth bulb.
ヤマさんは、きゅうこんを つまみあげて、ねを出しました。
Yama-san picked it up and stretched the roots.
すると、まるで 生きているように、ねがのびて.....。「ほうら。これが、めんさ。きゅうこん一つで、いくらでものびる。」
Then— the roots started growing, "Look! This is the noodle! One bulb can grow endlessly!"
きゅうこんを、大なべに いれて、しょうゆを トクトクついで、ボックスの うらぶたを、パタム。
He dropped the bulb into the pot, poured in some soy sauce, and closed the vending machine.
ヤマさんは、おみせの 中から ラーメンどんぶりを 一つもってきて、おもてに まわって、百円玉を、ポイ。
Then, he took out a ramen bowl, tossed a 100-yen coin into the machine—
ジームムムム スパッ ザー
Zzzzzzt—Plop—Sssssshhhhhh!
どんぶりに、おいしそうな ラーメンが、ゆげをたてて いました。
A steaming bowl of ramen appeared.
ムノくんが、いいます。「コマッタサンモ、ヤッテミナ。」
Muno-kun chirped, "Komattasan, you try it too!"
こまったさんは、「いやよ！ スープと めんだけなんて。やさいも、おにくも、たまごも はいってなきゃ、えいように ならないし、だい一、うつくしくないわよ。」
Komattasan huffed, "No way! Just soup and noodles? You need vegetables, meat, and eggs for nutrition! And besides, it’s not beautiful without toppings!"
「まったく、どうかん。そのとおり！」
"Exactly!"
そういいながら、ヤマさんは、バイクれっしゃから やさいを 出して、おみせの中に はこびました。
With that, Yama-san started unloading vegetables from the motorbike train and carrying them into the shop.
「きみで なければ、できないよ。」
"Only you can do it."
こまったさんは、うまく のせられて しまいました。
Komattasan found herself caught up in the moment.
やさいを きざんで、ぶたにくを きって、ハムも きり、にんにくを みじんぎり.....。
She chopped vegetables, sliced pork, diced ham, minced garlic...
火はつよく なべは あつあつ あぶらを いれて にんにく まぜて にく いれて
The fire burned hot, the pan sizzled, oil was added, garlic was mixed, meat was fried...
やさいは かたいものから じゅんじゅんに しあげは しおと こしょうを パーラパラ
Vegetables are cooked in order from the hardest ones first, and the finishing touch is a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
できあがりを、大きなさらに うつすと、またムノくんが、いいます。
Once the dish is transferred to a large plate, Muno-kun speaks up again.
「コンドハ モヤシラーメン。」
"Next, bean sprout ramen!"
こまったさんは、だんだん、おもしろく なってきました。
Komatta-san is starting to find this quite enjoyable.
火は つよく なべは あつあつ あぶらを いれて にんにく まぜたら こんどは ひきにく もやしを いためて ピーマン ちらせば まあ きれい！
The fire is strong, the pot is sizzling hot—oil is added, garlic is mixed in, then ground meat and bean sprouts are stir-fried. A sprinkle of green peppers—how beautiful!
「はあい、できたわよ。」と、こまったさんが、さけびました。
"It's ready!" Komatta-san exclaims.
そして 見ました。
And then she sees it.
「ひえーっ！」
"Eek!"
おみせの そとには、いつのまにか、ぎょうれつが、できていたのです。
Outside the shop, a line has formed before she even noticed.
みんな、百円玉を もって、ならんでいます。
Everyone is holding a 100-yen coin, waiting in line.
子どもも、おとなも。あれ？ おまわりさんも います。
Children, adults—wait, even a policeman?
あれは、学校の先生じゃないかしら。
Isn't that the school teacher?
やおやさんも、にくやさんも、ケーキやさんも、でんしゃの うんてんしゅさんや、タクシーの うんてんしゅさんも、車を とめて、「ぼく、やさいラーメン。」「あたし、もやしの 大もり。」
The grocer, the butcher, the cake shop owner, even the train and taxi drivers have stopped their vehicles. "I'll have vegetable ramen!" "I want a large bean sprout ramen!"
こまったさんは、また、さけびました。
Komatta-san exclaims again.
「こまったわ。わたし、そんなに たくさん、つくれない。」
"Oh no! I can't make that much!"
が、ふしぎなのです。
But something strange is happening.
ムノくんが、「コマラナイ、コマラナイ。」いうので、見ると、ボックスで、ラーメンを かったおきゃくは、ヤマさんの ところに きて、やさいいためを のせて もらうのです。
Muno-kun says, "No need to worry, no need to worry," so she looks—and sees that customers who buy boxed ramen go over to Yama-san, who places the stir-fried vegetables on top.
が、いくらのせても、おさらのやさい、なくならないのです。
Yet, no matter how much he adds, the vegetables on the plate never run out!
そのうちに、「わたし、たまごラーメンが、ほしいな。」と、いったのを 見たら、なんとなんと、本やさんのうちの、とらねこでは ありませんか。
Just then, someone says, "I'd like egg ramen." Komatta-san looks—and what a surprise! Isn't that the bookstore owner's tabby cat?
「はいよっ。とくせいハムたま。」
"Alright! Special ham and egg coming up!"
こまったさんは、ハムを こまかくきって、ねぎをきざんで、たまごを 四つも わって、しおと こしょうを パラパラ.....。
Komatta-san finely chops ham, slices green onions, cracks open four eggs, and sprinkles salt and pepper…
火は つよく なべは あつあつ あぶらは ぐらぐら けむりが たつまで そこへ たまごを ザン ザブリ ほら！ なべの中に 花がさく 花を ゆっくり かきまぜて そとがわ こんがり 中 トローリ
The fire is strong, the pot is sizzling, the oil is bubbling—until smoke starts rising. Then, the eggs are poured in with a splash! Look—flowers blooming in the pot! She stirs gently, letting the edges crisp while keeping the center creamy.
「おまちどお！」と、いったときです。
"Here you go!" she calls out.
むねに さしてあった バラの花が、ハラハラと ゆれました。
At that moment, the rose tucked into her chest flutters.
ーあのおじさんに、もらったー
—The one she got from that man—
できあがった ハムたまを ヤマさんに わたして、バラの花を ぬいてみました。
After handing the ham and egg dish to Yama-san, she takes out the rose.
すると、花がはじけて、モコッと けむりが 出たかと おもうと、こまったさんの うでの中に、きれいな 中国ふくが、ありました。
The flower bursts open, a puff of smoke rises, and suddenly, in Komatta-san’s arms is a beautiful Chinese-style outfit!
「すてきっ！」
"Amazing!"
こまったさんは、おみせの うらに まわって、ふくを きてみました。
She quickly goes behind the shop and puts it on.
すらりと うつくしい、こまったさんに なりました。
She now looks elegant and beautiful.
「どうぞ、こちらへ。」と、そこへ、こまったさんの 手を とったのは、またしても、あのぷっくり ふとった おじさんでした。
"Please, this way." The one who took her hand—it’s that plump, jolly man again!
おじさんは、こまったさんを、おみせの まえに つれていきました。
He leads Komatta-san to the front of the store.
「みなさん。こまったラーメンの、こまったさんでぇす！ いまから、やすくて、はやくて、さいこうに うまい、こまったラーメンを おいわいして、ばくちくを たきまぁす。」
"Everyone! Here is Komatta-san of Komatta Ramen! To celebrate the launch of her delicious, affordable, and speedy ramen, we’ll light some fireworks!"
おじさんは、そういって、おみせの 入り口に つるした ばくちくに 火をつけました。
With that, the man lights the fireworks hanging at the shop entrance.
「わあ、こまったわっ！」
"Oh no! What now?!"
ばくちくは、ものすごい 音を してはじける花火です。
The fireworks explode with a tremendous sound.
こまったさんは、耳をふさいで、目をつぶって.....。
Komatta-san covers her ears and shuts her eyes...
パッ チッ ダ ダ ダ ダ パキン パチ パチ チ チ チ
POP! BANG! CRACKLE!
ばくちくは、おわりました。こまったさんは、おそるおそる、目を あけました。
When the fireworks end, she slowly opens her eyes.
「あっ！」
"Oh!"
そこは、もとの 花やさんの みせさき。
She’s back in front of her little flower shop.
こまったさんも、もとのまま。
Everything is as it was before.
おみせも、もとのまま。
The shop is back to normal.
いつもの 小さな小さな 花やさんでした。
The same small, cozy flower shop.
「そうだわ！」
"That's it!"
こったさんは、おみせを しめてから、いいました。
Komatta-san closes the shop and declares:
「わたしも、こまったラーメンつくろう。」
"I'm going to make Komatta Ramen!"
が、スープを とっているひまも ありません。
But there’s no time to prepare broth.
インスタント ラーメンを かって、「上にのせるのは、マーボどうふよ。」
She buys instant ramen and decides to top it with mapo tofu!
まず はじめに たれを よういしておきます
First, she prepares the sauce:
みそ 大さじ１ ケチャップ 大さじ１ スープ カップ１
1 tablespoon miso, 1 tablespoon ketchup, 1 cup soup stock
つよ火 にんにく みじんぎり とうがらし すこし。にんにく とうがらし それから ひきにくを いためます。
She heats garlic and a bit of chili pepper over high heat, then stir-fries the ground meat.
つぎに さいころに きった とうふを いれます。とうふは ゆでて おいたほうが よいと おもいます。
Next, she adds cubed tofu (boiled beforehand for best results).
たれを いれて あたためたら 水どき かたくりこで トロミを つけます。
She pours in the sauce, warms it up, and thickens it with starch dissolved in water.
しあげは ごまあぶらを ひとたらし！ できたあ！
For the finishing touch—a drizzle of sesame oil! Done!
ヤマさんと ふたりで、マーボラーメンを たべました。
Komatta-san and Yama-san enjoy their mapo ramen together.
そして、いいました。
And then, she says:
「わたし、こまったラーメンのおみせ、やろうかしら。」
"Maybe I should open a Komatta Ramen shop."
すると、ムノくんが、「コマッタ、コマッタ。」
To which Muno-kun replies, "Oh no, oh no!"
