あるひ、こぐまの くんちゃんの ところに いとこの アレックが やってきました。
せなかに リュックを しょってきます。
「キャンプに いくんだ。いっしょに いかない？」
「アレックと いっしょに キャンプに いっても いい？」
くんちゃんは おおきなこえで ききました。
「ああ、いいよ。」「いいですよ。」
おとうさんぐまと おかあさんぐまは そういって、リュックの よういを してくれました。
くんちゃんと アレックは しゅっぱつし、もりのなかの こみちへ はいっていきました。
「かえりみちを まちがえるんじゃないよ。」
おとうさんと おかあさんは うしろから よびかけました。
くんちゃんと アレックが あるいていくと、こまどりが とんで いました。
くちばしに くさや きぎれを くわえて、きのこずえに はいっていきます。
「こんにちは。」くんちゃんは こまどりに よびかけました。
「くさや きぎれを はこんで なにを しているの？」
「すを つくっているんだよ。」と こまどりが こたえました。
「くさや こえだで つくった すは とても いごこちが いいのさ。」
「ふうん。」と くんちゃんは いいました。
「きみは どこへ いくの？」
「アレックと いっしょに キャンプに いくんだよ。かえりに また あおうね。」くんちゃんは いいました。
二ひきは すすんで いきました。
すると いけに あひるが うかんでいました。
「こんにちは。」くんちゃんは あひるに いいました。
「どうやったら みずの うえに うかんで いられるの？」
「およいでいるからよ。みてごらんなさい。ほら、あしで かいているでしょ？」と あひるが こたえました。
「ふうん。」
「あなたは どこへ いくの？」こんどは あひるが ききました。
「アレックと キャンプに いくんだよ。かえりに また あおうね。」
二ひきが また すすんで いくと、こんどは おがわに でました。
とつぜん かわせみが さっと おりてきて、みずに もぐると また さっと きのうえに とびあがりました。
「こんにちは。」くんちゃんは いいました。
「どうして そんなこと しているの？」
「さかなを とっているんだよ。みずのなかに さかなが みえたら とびおりて いって つかまえるのさ。」
「ふうん。」
「きみは どこへ いくの？」
「アレックと キャンプに いくの。かえりに また あおうね。」
やがて みずうみまで きました。
「ここ、キャンプするのに いいばしょ だね。」と アレックが いいました。
二ひきは みずうみの ほとりに すわって、ゆうごはんを たべました。
たべおわると、アレックが いいました。
「こんどは ねるところを つくらなきゃ。どうやって つくるのか おしえてあげるね。」
「しってるよ。こまどりが おしえてくれたから。」と くんちゃんは いいました。
アレックは いわの でっぱりの したに ねるところを つくりました。
くんちゃんは きぎれや こえだや くさを あつめて、それを かついで きに のぼりました。
そして、えだのうえに くまがねるのに ちょうど いいくらいの すを つくりました。
「おやすみ。」アレックは いって、ねどこに もぐりこみました。
「きが かわったら、ここに きて いっしょに ねて いいよ。」
「このベッドで だいじょうぶ。おやすみ。」くんちゃんは こたえました。
まよなかごろ、とつぜん くんちゃんの ベッドが くずれました。
くんちゃんは きぎれや くさもろとも じめんに おちて しまいました。
「すこし つめてくれない？ やっぱり、くまらしく ねることに する。」
そういって くんちゃんは いわの でっぱりの したの アレックの となりに もぐりこみました。
つぎのあさ、二ひきは とても はやく めを さましました。
「みずうみで およごう！」と アレックが いいました。
「およぎかた おしえてあげる。」
「しってるよ。あひるが おしえてくれたから。」と くんちゃんは いいました。
くんちゃんは みずに はいっていくと、みずのうえに うかぼうと しました。
ところが あしで かくまえに、もう おしりが そこに ついてしまいました。
「くまは こうやって およぐんだよ。」と アレックは いって、くんちゃんに およぎかたを おしえてくれました。
すると、そのほうが ずっと うまく いきました。
しばらく およいだあと、アレックが いいました。
「あさごはんの さかなを とろうよ。どうやって とるか、おしえて あげるからね。」
「しってるよ。かわせみが おしえてくれたから。」
こういって くんちゃんは きに かけていくと、みずの うえに はりだしている えだに のぼりました。
「さかなが みえる。ぼくが とるとこ みていて！」と くんちゃんは アレックに むかって さけびました。
パシャーン！
おおきな おとを たてて くんちゃんは みずに とびこみました。
ところが うかび あがって きたとき、さかなを もっては いませんでした。
「わかったよ。くまらしい やりかたで とることに する。」と くんちゃんは いいました。
アレックが しずかな ばしょを さがし、そこで 二ひきは くまらしい やりかたで さかなを つかまえました。
それから ひを おこし、あさごはんを つくって たべました。
やがて くんちゃんと アレックは、もうふと フライパンを しまうと、いえじに つきました。
しばらく いくと、みちが わかれている ところに きました。
アレックは ひだりの みちを いき、くんちゃんは みぎの みちを いきました。
「こっちだよ。おいで。」と アレックが よびました。
くんちゃんは しらんかおして あるきつづけます。
「かわせみの ところへ いくみちは こっちだもの。」
「なら、いいや。」
アレックは いって、くんちゃんの みちへ やってきました。
それでも アレックは、「このみち、まちがってるに きまってる。すぐに わかるさ。」と いいました。
しばらく いくと、かわせみに あった おがわに でました。
「こんにちは。ぼく、さかなを とる もっといい ほうほうを ならったよ。」
「それは よかったね。」
そういって、かわせみは そのまま、かわせみの やりかたで さかなを とりつづけました。
二ひきは みちを つづけました。
すこしすると また わかれみちに きました。
くんちゃんは みぎのみちを いき、アレックは ひだりのみちを いきました。
「こっちのほうが ただしい みちだよ。おいで。」と アレックは いいました。
くんちゃんは そのまま あるき つづけました。
「あひるに あえるのは こっちの みちだもの。」
「なら、いいや。」アレックは いって、くんちゃんの ほうに やってきました。
それでも アレックは「このみち、まちがってる。もうじき わかるさ。」と いいました。
やがて 二ひきは あひるの いけに きました。
きょうも あひるは およいでいます。
「こんにちは。ぼく、もっといい およぎかたを おそわったよ。」
「そりゃあ よかったこと。」
あひるは そういって あひるの およぎかたで およぎ つづけました。
くんちゃんと アレックは また あるいて いきました。
すると また みちの わかれめに きました。
くんちゃんは ひだりの みちを いき、アレックは みぎの みちを いきました。
「こっちだよ。おいで。」と アレックが いいました。
くんちゃんは すたすた あるき つづけました。
「このみちを いくと こまどりに あえるんだもの。」
「へぇー、まぁ いいや。」
そういって アレックは くんちゃんの ほうへ やってきましたが、
「だけど、このみち まちがってるって。まあ みててごらん。」と いいました。
やがて 二ひきは こまどりを みた きのところに きました。
こまどりは まだ すを つくっていました。
「こんにちは。ぼく、もりのなかで ねるのに もっと いい やりかた ならったんだ。」
「そりゃあ よかったね。」こまどりは そういって そのまま すづくりを つづけました。
くんちゃんと アレックは もりを ぬけ、くんちゃんの いえの まえに でました。
おとうさんぐまと おかあさんぐまは そとで はたらいて いました。
「キャンプは どうだった？」と おとうさんと おかあさんは ききました。
「おもしろかったよ。」と くんちゃんは こたえました。
すると アレックが いいました。
「くんちゃんはね、こまどりみたいに ねようと したり、あひるみたいに およごうと したり、かわせみみたいに さかなを とろうと したんだよ。」
「でも、かえりみちを ちゃんと おぼえていたのは、ぼくだったよ。」と くんちゃんは いいました。
# Kunchan's Forest Camp
One day, Kunchan the little bear's cousin, Alec, came to visit him.
Alec had a backpack on his back.
"I'm going camping. Want to come along?"
"Can I go camping with Alec?" Kunchan asked loudly.
"Sure, go ahead," said his dad bear.
"Yes, that's fine," said his mom bear.
They prepared a backpack for Kunchan.
Kunchan and Alec set off and entered a narrow forest path.
"Don't get lost on your way back," called out Kunchan’s dad and mom from behind.
As Kunchan and Alec walked on, they saw a robin flying by.
The robin had grass and small twigs in its beak and was heading up to the treetop.
"Hello," Kunchan called out to the robin.
"What are you doing with that grass and those twigs?"
"I'm building a nest," replied the robin.
"A nest made of grass and twigs is very cozy."
"Hmm," said Kunchan.
"Where are you going?" asked the robin.
"I'm going camping with Alec. See you on the way back!" said Kunchan.
The two continued walking.
Then, they saw a duck floating on a pond.
"Hello," Kunchan said to the duck.
"How can you float on the water?"
"I'm swimming. Watch my feet. See how they paddle?" replied the duck.
"Hmm," said Kunchan.
"Where are you going?" the duck asked this time.
"I'm going camping with Alec. See you on the way back!"
The two walked further and came to a small stream.
Suddenly, a kingfisher dived into the water and then quickly flew back to a tree.
"Hello," Kunchan said.
"Why are you doing that?"
"I'm catching fish. When I see a fish in the water, I dive down and catch it," said the kingfisher.
"Hmm," said Kunchan.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going camping with Alec. See you on the way back."
Eventually, they reached the lake.
"This is a good spot to camp," said Alec.
The two sat by the lake and had their dinner.
After finishing, Alec said, "Now we need to make a place to sleep. I'll show you how."
"I know how. The robin showed me," said Kunchan.
Alec made a sleeping spot under a rock overhang.
Kunchan gathered twigs, branches, and grass and carried them up into a tree.
He made a nest just the right size for a bear to sleep on a branch.
"Goodnight," Alec said as he crawled into his sleeping spot.
"If you change your mind, you can come sleep here with me."
"I'm fine with this bed. Goodnight," Kunchan replied.
Around midnight, Kunchan’s bed suddenly collapsed.
Kunchan fell to the ground along with the twigs and grass.
"Could you move over a bit? I think I'll sleep like a bear after all."
Saying this, Kunchan crawled into Alec's sleeping spot under the rock overhang.
The next morning, they woke up very early.
"Let's swim in the lake!" Alec said.
"I'll show you how to swim."
"I already know. The duck showed me," said Kunchan.
Kunchan went into the water and tried to float.
However, before he could paddle his feet, his bottom was already touching the ground.
"This is how bears swim," Alec said, and he showed Kunchan how to swim properly.
This worked much better.
After swimming for a while, Alec said, "Let's catch fish for breakfast. I'll show you how."
"I know how. The kingfisher showed me," Kunchan said.
Kunchan climbed a tree that hung over the water.
"I can see fish. Watch me catch one!" Kunchan shouted to Alec.
Splash!
With a big noise, Kunchan jumped into the water.
But when he surfaced, he didn't have a fish.
"I get it. I'll catch them the bear way," Kunchan said.
Alec found a quiet spot, and they caught fish in the bear way.
Then they started a fire, cooked breakfast, and ate.
Eventually, Kunchan and Alec packed up their blankets and frying pan and headed home.
After a while, they came to a fork in the road.
Alec took the left path, and Kunchan took the right.
"Come this way. Follow me," Alec called out.
Kunchan kept walking.
"The kingfisher’s place is this way."
"Fine," said Alec, and he joined Kunchan on his path.
But Alec kept saying, "This path must be wrong. You'll see soon."
After a while, they came to the stream where they saw the kingfisher.
"Hello. I learned a better way to catch fish."
"That's great," said the kingfisher, and continued catching fish the kingfisher way.
The two continued walking.
After a bit, they came to another fork in the road.
Kunchan took the right path, and Alec took the left.
"Follow me. This way is right," said Alec.
Kunchan kept walking.
"This way leads to the duck’s pond."
"Fine," said Alec, and he joined Kunchan’s path.
But Alec kept saying, "This path is wrong. You’ll see soon."
Soon, they reached the pond where the duck was swimming.
"Hello. I learned a better way to swim."
"That's wonderful," said the duck, and continued swimming the duck way.
Kunchan and Alec continued walking.
They came to another fork in the road.
Kunchan took the left path, and Alec took the right.
"Follow me," Alec said.
Kunchan kept walking.
"This path leads to the robin."
"Fine," said Alec, and he joined Kunchan’s path.
But Alec kept saying, "This path is wrong. Just wait and see."
Eventually, they reached the tree where the robin was still building its nest.
"Hello. I learned a better way to sleep in the forest."
"That’s great," said the robin, and continued building its nest.
Kunchan and Alec finally exited the forest and arrived in front of Kunchan’s house.
His dad and mom bear were working outside.
"How was camping?" they asked.
"It was fun," Kunchan replied.
Then Alec said, "Kunchan tried to sleep like a robin, swim like a duck, and catch fish like a kingfisher."
"But I was the one who remembered the way home," Kunchan said.
