むかし、ある おとこが、まじないが うまいと ひょうばんの やまぶしの ところへ やってきました。
しゅぎょうを していた やまぶしは、とつぜんの きゃくに びっくり。
「な、なんの ようだ。」
「うちに ふしぎな くさびらが はえるので こまっています。ぜひ まじないで とってほしいのです。」
「くさびらとは つまり きのこの ことですな？ わしは いま、しゅぎょうの とちゅうで あるが、たのみと あれば しかたが ない。 わざわざ でかけて まいりましょうぞ。」
そう いって、やまぶしは おとこと やまを くだって いきました。
おとこの うちに つき、くさびらを みた やまぶしは、
「ひゃっ！」と とびのきました。
「でかい！しかも きみょうじゃ。」
「そうなのです。これが、ぬいても ぬいても はえてくるのです。」
やまぶしは すぐに めを つむり、
「むむむ～。」と うなりはじめました。
おとこが しんぱいそうに みていると、ぱっと めを あけ、
「やはり そうか。」と うなずきました。
「これは てんぐの しわざ。だが、わしのような ちからの ある やまぶしには なんでも ないことじゃ。まかせなさい。」
やまぶしは さっそく じゅもんを となえはじめました。

ぼろんぼろ ぼろんぼろ
やまぶしが いっしんに いのっていると、おとこが とんとんと かたを たたきました。
「もしもし......。あのう、くさびらは ふえました。」
やまぶしは いっしゅん うろたえましたが、
「さよう。わるいものを とらえるときは、いちど ふえるもの。」
と へいぜんと いいました。
「したに うまっているものが いちど でてくるのじゃ。では、もう いちど。」
ぼろんぼろ ぼろんぼろ
ぼろんぼろ ぼろんぼろ
くさびらは どんどん ふえます。
「これで ほんとうに でてこなく なるのですか？」
と おとこが たずねると、
「うむ、これくらい だしておけば、あとは とるだけじゃ。くさびらが きらう なすびの まじないで とりましょうぞ。」
ぼろんぼろ ぼろんぼろ
ぼろんぼろ ぼろんぼろ
くさびらは ますます ふえます。
しかも、のこのこと うごいているでは ありませんか。
「こんなことに なるなら、やまぶしなんかに たのまない ほうが ずっと ましだった。」
と、おとこが もんくを いうと、やまぶしは、
「わしも、こんなことは はじめてじゃ。」
と めを しばしばさせています。
「おいおい、そんな よわきで どうする！やまぶし、がんばれ！」
おとこに はげまされ、
「では、こんどは きゅうりの まじない。」
うまぶしは、あせを ながしながら まじないを つづけます。

「で、でかいのが でたぞ。」
「おばけくさびらだ。」
「そ、それでは えーと、こんどは かぼしゃの まじないを.....。」

「たべちゃうぞ～。」
くさびらが そう いって、おおきな くちを あけました。
「くちを きいた！」
やまぶしも おとこも そろって こしを ぬかしました。
たくさんの くさびらが、
「ほいほい ほいほい ほいほい。」
と、へんな こえを だしながら おいかけてきます。
「ゆ、ゆるしてくれ～。」
やまぶしと おとこは、とうとう にげだしました。
「ほいほい ほいほい ほいほい。」
くさびらは、どこまでも ふたりを おいかけていきました。
さあて どこまで いったやら....。

### The Mushrooms
Once upon a time, a man went to see a mountain monk who was renowned for his magical powers.
The monk, who was deep in his training, was surprised by the unexpected visitor.
"W-what do you want?"
"There are mysterious mushrooms growing in my house, and it's causing trouble. Please, use your magic to get rid of them."
"Mushrooms, you say? Well, I'm in the midst of my training, but since you've come all this way, I suppose I have no choice. I'll come with you."
Saying this, the monk descended the mountain with the man.
When they arrived at the man's house, the monk saw the mushrooms and jumped back in shock.
"They're huge! And very strange!"
"Yes, that's right. No matter how many times I pull them out, they just keep growing back."
The monk immediately closed his eyes and began to chant.
"Hmm... hmmm..."
The man watched anxiously until the monk suddenly opened his eyes and nodded.
"Just as I thought. This is the work of a tengu. But for a powerful monk like me, it's no problem. Leave it to me."
The monk began to recite an incantation.
"Boromboro boromboro
Boromboro boromboro"
As the monk chanted earnestly, the man tapped him on the shoulder.
"Excuse me... but the mushrooms have increased."
The monk was momentarily flustered but quickly regained his composure.
"Yes, when dealing with evil, it often increases before it can be eliminated."
He spoke confidently.
"The mushrooms buried underground are surfacing. Now, once more."

The mushrooms continued to multiply.
"Will they really stop coming out?"
The man asked, concerned.
"Yes, if we bring out this many, then removing them will be simple. Let's use the eggplant spell that mushrooms dislike."

The mushrooms kept multiplying.
Moreover, they began to move.
"If this keeps up, it would have been better not to ask the monk for help at all."
The man complained, and the monk, eyes blinking rapidly, responded,
"This is the first time I've encountered something like this."
"Hey, don't give up so easily! Monk, hang in there!"
Encouraged by the man, the monk continued, now sweating profusely.
"Then, let's try the cucumber spell."

"A big one just appeared."
"A giant mushroom."
"Th-then, um, let's try the pumpkin spell..."

The mushroom said, opening its large mouth.
"It spoke!"
Both the monk and the man were so shocked they fell to the ground.
Many mushrooms, chanting "Hoi hoi hoi hoi hoi hoi," began to chase them.
"Please, forgive us!"
The monk and the man finally fled.
"Hoy hoy hoy hoy hoy hoy."
The mushrooms chased them as far as they could go.
Who knows where they ended up...
