むかし むかし おばあさんが かわで せんたく して いたら、ももが ながれて きたよ。
Long, long ago, an old woman was doing laundry by the river when a peach came floating down.

あかちゃんが でて きた。
When she cut open the peach, a baby came out.
ももから うまれたから ももたろう。
Since he was born from a peach, they named him Momotaro.
おおきく なった ももたろう。
Momotaro grew up big and strong.
おばあさんが つくって くれた きびだんご もって、おにがしまへ おにたいじ。
With the millet dumplings that the old woman made for him, he set off for Onigashima to defeat the demons.
いぬに あったよ、こんにちは。
He met a dog along the way. "Hello!"
「きびだんご あげるよ、いっしょに いこう。」

The dog joined him on his journey!
さるに あったよ、こんにちは。

「いいとも。キッキッキー！」
"Sure! Ki ki kii!"
さるも いっしょに しゅっぱーつ！
The monkey joined him on his journey!
きじに あったよ、こんにちは。
Then, he met a pheasant. "Hello!"
「きびだんご あげるよ、いっしょに いこう。」

きじも いっしょに しゅっぱーつ！
The pheasant joined him on his journey!
ふねで いくよ、おにがしま。
なみを のりこえ.....

ももたろうと いぬ、さる、きじ、たからものを もって かえって きたよ。
