おじいさんが、かぶの たねを まきました。
The old man planted turnip seeds.
「あまい あまい かぶになれ。おおきな おおきな かぶに なれ。」
"Grow sweet, sweet turnip. Become a big, big turnip."
あまい あまい、おおきな おおきな かぶに なりました。
It became a sweet, sweet and big, big turnip.
おじいさんは、かぶを ぬこうと しました。
The old man tried to pull up the turnip.
「うんとこしょ、どっこいしょ。」
"Heave-ho, heave-ho."
けれども、かぶは ぬけません。
But the turnip wouldn't budge.
おじいさんは、おばあさんを よんで きました。
The old man called the old woman.
かぶを おじいさんが ひっぱって、おじいさんを おばあさんが ひっぱって、
The old man pulled the turnip, the old woman pulled the old man,
「うんとこしょ、どっこいしょ。」
"Heave-ho, heave-ho."
それでも かぶは ぬけません。
Still, the turnip wouldn't come out.
おばあさんは、まごを よんで きました。
The old woman called the grandchild.
