「これは だれも しらない ひみつだけどね」
がっこうからの かえりみち、ミリくんが そう いった。
ミリくんは ぼくが いちねんせいに なって はじめて できた ともだちだ。
かえりみちが いっしょ だったから いつのまにか なかよくなった。
ミリくんは この まちの ひみつを たくさん しっていて ぼくに こっそり おしえてくれる。
これは だれも しらない ひみつだけどね と、ミリくんは いった。
にちょうめの かどの いぬ、ほんとは ぜつめつ したはずの 二ホンオオカミ だって しってた？
その オオカミの かいぬしは、だいてんさいの かがくしゃでさ、ぜつめつした いきものを つぎつぎと よみがえらせているんだよ。
だけど その ひと、あたまの ねじが ちょっと ゆるんじゃっててね、とんでもない ものを どんどん よみがえらせているのさ。
もうすぐ きょうりゅうたちが この まちを あるきまわる ことに なるよ。
これは だれも しらない ひみつだけどね と、ミリくんは いった。
さんちょうめの いけの かえるは、まじょの おかしを たべすぎた こどもたちだって しってた？
その まじょ、いつもは おかしやの おばさんに ばけているんだ。
そして、「おまけだよ」って にこにこ しながら どくいりの おかしを くばっているのさ。
おかしを たべた こどもたちは、いつのまにか ねことか こうもりとか かえるに なっちゃう。
つきよの ばんには、てしたを ひきつれた まじょが ほうきに のって とんでいくのが みられるよ。
これは だれも しらない ひみつだけどね と、ミリくんは いった。
よんちょうめの さかなやさんと にくやさん、あの ふたりには、おさむらいさんの れいが ついているって しってた？
どっちの おさむらいさんも、すごい けんの つかいてだったんだ。
あの ふたりの ほうちょうさばきが すごいのも おさむらいさんたちの おかげなのさ。
だけど おさむらいさんたちは、ずっと てきどうしだった。
だから いまでも、さかなやさんと にくやさんの からだを かりて けっとうを してるんだ。
もちろん そのときは、ほうちょうじゃなくて きの ぼうを つかってる。
さかなやさんと にくやさんの あたまに ときどき たんこぶが あるのは そのせいだよ。
これは だれも しらない ひみつだけどね と、ミリくんは いった。
ごちょうめの マンホールの なかには、ワニとか ヘビとか オオトカゲが うじゃうじゃ いるって しってた？
マンホールに すてられた、ちょっと かわった ペット たちが、げすいの なかで おおきくなったのさ。
いまでは マンホールの なかは、みなみの くにの ジャングル みたいに なっているんだ。
もうすぐ マンホールの ふたが がたがた なりだす。
そうしたらね、すぐに にげださないと だめだ。
なかから ひとくい ワニとか だいじゃとかが わさわさ でてくるからね。
ぐずぐず してたら ワニの おやつに されちゃうよ。
「これは だれも しらない ひみつだけどね」
ミリくんの はなしは まだまだ つづく。
ようかい マーケットに みずたまり うらない、それから かいぞく からす。
ミリくんの おしえてくれる ひみつは、ぼくの まちを まったく べつの まちに かえていく。
ぼくらの まちは わくわく するような ひみつで いっぱいだ。
「これは だれも しらない ひみつだけどね」
きのうの かえりみち、ミリくんが そう いった。
「ぼくが、アンドロメダから やってきた うちゅうじんだって しってた？」
「ぼくの かぞくは にんげんの ふりを して、ちきゅうを ずっと しらべていたんだ。でも もう そろそろ かえらなくっちゃ いけない」
「だけど ちきゅうでは、きみみたいな すてきな ともだちが できた。
ぼくの なかまに、きみの ことを ほうこく できるのが、とっても うれしいよ」
ミリくんは おおきく てを ふって かえっていった。
それが、ミリくんの さいごの ひみつだった。
つぎのひ がっこうへ いくと 「ミリくんは てんこうしました」と、せんせいが いった。
おとうさんの おしごとで とおくに ひっこし したそうだ。
だけど それは ちがう。
ぼくだけが ひみつを しっている。
ミリくんは アンドロメダに かえったんだ。
こんや ぼくは ひみつの はこを あける。
はこの なかには、ミリくんから もらった つうしんきが はいっている。
つうしんきを アンドロメダに むけて ぼくは じっと まつ。
いつか きっと、ミリくんの こえが きこえてくるだろう。
「......これは.....だれも しらない..... ひみつだけど.....ね.....」
### The Last Secret - SAIGO NO HIMITSU
"This is a secret nobody knows," Millie-kun said on the way home from school.
Millie-kun was the first friend I made when I became a first grader. We became friends without realizing it since we walked home together.
Millie-kun knows many secrets about this town and secretly tells them to me.
"This is a secret nobody knows," Millie-kun said.
"Did you know that the dog on the corner of the second block is actually a Japanese wolf, which was supposed to be extinct? Its owner is a genius scientist who is bringing extinct creatures back to life one after another. But this person has a screw loose and is reviving all sorts of unimaginable things. Soon, dinosaurs will be roaming around this town."
"This is a secret nobody knows," Millie-kun said.
"Did you know that the frogs in the pond on the third block are actually children who ate too many sweets from a witch? The witch usually disguises herself as a candy shop lady and hands out poisoned sweets with a smile, saying 'here's a little extra.' The children who eat the sweets turn into cats, bats, or frogs. On moonlit nights, you can see the witch flying with her minions on a broom."
"This is a secret nobody knows," Millie-kun said.
"Did you know that the fishmonger and the butcher on the fourth block are possessed by samurai spirits? Both samurai were master swordsmen. The reason why their knife skills are so amazing is thanks to the samurai spirits. But those samurai were rivals. So, even now, they borrow the bodies of the fishmonger and butcher to duel each other. Of course, they use wooden sticks instead of knives. The lumps on their heads sometimes are because of these duels."
"This is a secret nobody knows," Millie-kun said.
"Did you know that the manholes on the fifth block are full of crocodiles, snakes, and large lizards? Abandoned exotic pets grew big in the sewers. Now, the inside of the manholes is like a jungle in a tropical country. Soon, the manhole covers will start to rattle. When that happens, you must run away immediately. Man-eating crocodiles and giant snakes will come out, and if you dawdle, you will become a snack for a crocodile."
"This is a secret nobody knows," Millie-kun said.
Millie-kun's stories continue: the youkai market, the puddle fortune-teller, and the pirate crow. The secrets Millie-kun tells me transform my town into a completely different place.
Our town is full of exciting secrets.
"This is a secret nobody knows," Millie-kun said yesterday on the way home.
"Did you know that I'm an alien from Andromeda? My family has been pretending to be human and studying Earth. But soon, we have to go back. But on Earth, I made a wonderful friend like you. I'm very happy to be able to tell my friends about you."
Millie-kun waved big and went home. That was Millie-kun's last secret.
The next day at school, the teacher said, "Millie-kun has transferred to another school." He moved far away because of his father's job.
But that's not true. I alone know the secret. Millie-kun went back to Andromeda.
Tonight, I will open the secret box. Inside the box is a communicator I got from Millie-kun. I will point the communicator towards Andromeda and wait. Someday, I will surely hear Millie-kun's voice.
"......This is......a secret......nobody knows....."
