(Usako-chan Rides an Airplane)
あるひ うさこちゃんが にわに でて あそんでいると どこからか ぶぅんぶぅん と いう おとが きこえてきました。
One day, while Usako-chan was playing in the garden, she suddenly heard a buzzing sound coming from somewhere.
なんでしょう。
"What could that be?"
そらを みあげると まあ おどろいた。ひこうきが とんで きたのです。
When she looked up at the sky, she was surprised to see an airplane flying overhead.
そうじゅうせきには うさこちゃんの おじさんの かおが みえました。
In the cockpit, she could see the face of her uncle.
みているうちに ひこうきは ちかづいてきて うさこちゃんの すぐ めのまえに おりました。
As she watched, the airplane got closer and landed right in front of her.
「おじさん こんにちは。びっくりしたわ」
"Hello, Uncle! You surprised me!" said Usako-chan.
おじさんは うさこちゃんに ききました。
Her uncle asked,
「どうだい うさこちゃん おじさんと いっしょに うみや もりの うえを ひこうきに のって とんでみないか」
"Well, Usako-chan, how about flying over the sea and the forest with me in the airplane?"
「ああ うれしい。いきたいわ」 と うさこちゃんは いいました。
"Oh, I'd love to go!" Usako-chan replied.
「でも いくまえに かあさんに いって いいか どうか きいて こなくっちゃ」
"But first, I have to ask Mom if it's okay."
うさこちゃんが うちに とんでかえると かあさんは いいと いいました。
Usako-chan quickly ran home, and her mom said it was fine.
「でもね うさこちゃん へるめっとを ちゃんと かぶって いくんですよ」
"But remember, Usako-chan, make sure to wear your helmet properly."
うさこちゃんが のると ひこうきは ぐんぐん たかく のぼります。
Once she got in, the airplane soared higher and higher.
「うわぁ すごい！ いいきもち。まるで ゆめの なかで とんでるみたい」
"Wow, this feels amazing! It's like flying in a dream!
「おじさん もう ここ たかいんでしょ？」
"Uncle, aren't we really high up now?"
「ああ うさこちゃん したを みてごらん。どのくらい たかいか わかるから」
"Yes, Usako-chan, look down and you'll see how high we are."
「ほんと。かあさんが ちいさく みえる」
"It's true! Mom looks so tiny from here."
「ほら こんどは おおきな もりだよ」
"Look, now we're flying over a big forest.
「きが もくもく いっぱい はえている。
The trees are growing thick and tall.
そして おじさん もりの まんなかに りっぱな おしろが たってるわ」
"And, Uncle, there's a magnificent castle right in the middle of the forest!"
「ああら こんどは うみの うえだ。
"Oh, now we're over the sea.
ちいさい よっとが たくさん でて きれいに ならんで はしってる。
There are so many small yachts beautifully lined up and sailing.
あれ きょうそう しているの？」
Are they racing?"
こうして とんでいる うちに おじさんが うさこちゃんに いいました。
As they continued flying, her uncle said,
「もう そろそろ かえろうか」
"It's about time to head back now."
「もう？ だって いま のったばかりよ」
"But we just started!"
うちに かえると うさこちゃんは 「とても とても おもしろかった」と かあさんに いいました。
When they got home, Usako-chan excitedly told her mom how much fun she had.
「おじさんが ひこうしで よかったわ」
"I'm so glad Uncle is a pilot," she said.
