(Did You Forget Something?)
やすみじかんに、ぼくは ころんで ひざを すりむきました。
During recess, I fell and scraped my knee.
ほけんの せんせいが、きずの てあてを して くれました。
The school nurse treated my wound.
せんせいが、「これで だいじょうぶだよ。」と いいました。
"It's all better now," the nurse said.
ぼくが、きょうしつに もどろうと したら、せんせいが、「わすれて いる こと、なあい。」と いいました。
As I was about to return to my classroom, the nurse asked, "Did you forget something?"
なんだっけー。あっ、そうか。
Hmm, what was it? Oh, that's right.
「ありがとう ございました。」ぼくは、おおきな こえで いいました。
"Thank you very much!" I said in a loud voice.
せんせいは、「どういたしまして。」と、にっこり しました。
"You're welcome," the nurse replied with a smile.
きゅうしょくの はいぜんで ならんで いたら、ひろくんが れつに わりこんで きました。
Later, while lining up to serve lunch, Hiro-kun cut in line.
ぼくが、ひろくんを おしたら、ひろくんは、「いたい。」と いって、なきそうに なりました。
I pushed Hiro-kun, and he said, "Ouch," looking like he was about to cry.
せんせいが きて、はなしを きいて くれました。
The teacher came over and listened to what had happened.
せんせいと はなしを したら、ぼくも わるかったなと おもいました。
After talking with the teacher, I realized that I was wrong, too.
だまった ままの ぼくたちに せんせいが、「わすれて いる こと、なあい。」と いいました。
We both stood there silently until the teacher asked, "Did you forget something?"
なんだっけー。あっ、そうか。
Hmm, what was it? Oh, that's right.
「おして、ごめんね。」
"I'm sorry for pushing you,"
ぼくは ひろくんの かおを みて いいました。
I said, looking at Hiro-kun.
そうしたら、ひろくんも、「わりこんで、ごめんね。」と いいました。
Then Hiro-kun also said, "I'm sorry for cutting in line."
それを きいた せんせいは、にっこり しました。
Hearing that, the teacher smiled.
ぼくも ひろくんも、にっこり しました。
Hiro-kun and I both smiled, too.
