(Words that Describe the Situation)
下の絵のように、雨が ふっています。
As shown in the picture below, rain is falling.
そのようすを あらわしたいとき、どんな 言い方が あるでしょうか。
When you want to express such a situation, what ways can you say it?
雨が はげしく ふっている。
The rain is falling heavily.
「はげしく」は、雨のふり方が どれぐらいかを あらわすことばです。
"Heavily" is a word that expresses how intense the rain is.
「雨の ふり方が はげしい。」と 言いかえることも できます。
It can also be rephrased as "The way the rain is falling is heavy."
つぎのような 言い方も あります。
Here are some other expressions:
- 雨が、ざんざん ふっている。
The rain is falling in a pouring way.
「ざんざん」は、ことばの ひびきに よって、ようすを あらわすことばです。
"Zan zan" is a word that expresses the situation based on the sound of the word.
雨が、いきおいよく ふるようすが、ことばの かんじから つたわります。
The way the rain is falling with great force is conveyed through the sound of the word.
雨がふる音を、そのまま ことばにして あらわすことも できます。
You can also directly express the sound of rain using words.
- 雨が、たきのように ふっている。
The rain is falling like a waterfall.
- 雨が バケツを ひっくりかえしたみたいに ふっている。
The rain is falling like a bucket being overturned.
右の二つの 文は 「ーように」「ーたいに」と いう たとえを つかって、ようすを あらわす 言い方です。
The two sentences on the right use comparisons like "like" to express the situation.
一つ目の文では、雨のふり方を、高いところから 水が いきおいよく ながれおちる「たき」に たとえています。
In the first sentence, the way the rain is falling is compared to the "waterfall," where water falls forcefully from a high place.
二つ目の文では、同じく ひどく ふる雨を、バケツに たっぷりと 入っている 水が、いちどに 外へ ながれ出てしまう ようすに たとえています。
In the second sentence, the same intense rain is compared to the situation where water that is full in a bucket suddenly spills out all at once.
